Well I will try to make this as interesting as possible without skipping the much needed information. Here in India we are very much worried about the fuel prices (Especially Petrol). But there’s a solution to this problem and to our astonishment it a permanent one at least for decades to come before there a new breakthrough comes up. According to available stats available to us in national dailies and on Internet, Well a total of $160 billion has been spent for crude oil import in 2011-2012, That amounts to 53% of exports in 2011-2012. The fuel we import is fossil fuel and can’t be replenished in long run.
We need fuel for most of things and we can’t think of living without fuel to be precise it is impractical. Fuel is needed to cook, travel, electricity (Generators), Industrial use………………………and you may think of the rest.
Ecological Balance by using Biofuel's
Let’s come to the point. The Answer lies in Biofuel, You may come across this term previously or not. Never mind I will try my best to give you the much needed information on Biofuels. Technically Biofuels are fuels obtained by organic products like oil obtained from oilseeds. You may be thinking that I am joking as vegetable oil are much costly. But natures has given us plants like Jathropa. It is a plant which can survive arid conditions and its seeds are rich source of oil which is not edible but can give us Biodiesel. There are other trees also which solve this purpose to our benefit but Jathropa is blessed in its own way.
The process is not a rocket science and is rather simple:-
Oil + Catalyst Heat ==> Glycerin + Biodiesel (Technically an Alkyl Ester)
Bingo instead of just Biodiesel we also have a byproduct Glycerin (It is very widely used in cosmetic, and other industries).
Based on % of biodiesel with conventional diesel it can be classified as follows:-
- 100% biodiesel is referred to as B100, while
- 20% biodiesel, 80% petro diesel is labeled B20
- 5% biodiesel, 95% petro diesel is labeled B5
- 2% biodiesel, 98% petro diesel is labeled B2.
(This classification is used in Countries which are already adapting to Biofuels or in process)
Con’s to using Biodiesel in present scenario:-
When high content Biodiesel is used the rubber gaskets and hoses component's of the engine corrode easily if the fuel-mix is used in current models of engines or automobile's.
It may be a scenario if cultivation of oil producing plants and trees are planted in excess that may Interfere with Ecological balance.
In the similar way petrol and alcohol blends may be used instead of Petrol (fossil fuels).
Well you can say that alcohol is much costly but lets compare with spirits used in lab and thier cost. India is major producer of sugarcane and can be used for this purpose. Here also farmers will be benefited.

Well Government has to do some drastic changes in the system (Law, Policies etc) so that usage of Biofuels goes to an extent that our petroleum imports are cut short and forex reserves increases and give a boost to our Economy.
Even if we use 5% blends of Diesel and Petrol we could save a lot of money for our countries benefit. These blend of fuel are deployable in present scenario also. It will benefit our farmer's also. Well this can have a permanent solution to a grave problem today we are facing.
With a rough calculation we can calculate that around $8 billion can be saved within six months. If government start it right. But that is just start. US government is eying to cut short oil imports and be self dependent. They have a target for that And See what we in India are eying for that this will cause oil prices to come down and then we will have cheap fossil fuel's for us. America has also put up a Law regarding this. Many countries like Brazil, America have already started or have been using Bio-Fuels. We can also do that..............!!!!!
